Sri Lanka has reached tipping point with its capacity to accommodate the rising number of Covid- 19 patients including the alarming number of oxygen dependent ones. Medical experts are urging the government to review its decision to relax Covid management restrictions.
‘The relaxation should have started after we achieved vaccination targets along with declining numbers of daily Covid -19 cases, maybe in about three to four weeks from now’, the Association of Medical Specialists said in a press release issued today. ‘The current situation is grim and it is our responsibility to warn the decision makers about it’.
The Association expressed disappointment with the silence and lack of courage of professionals who advice decision makers to tell them the truth and the reality of the ground situation.
While acknowledging the country’s declining economic conditions and the urgency to get it back on track they underscore the gravity of the situation that it is better to have a living problem than a dead certainty.
