Supreme Court approves surcharge tax bill

  The Supreme Court has said Parliament can pass the surcharge tax bill with a simple majority. The Court held that the surcharge law was not inconsistent with the constitution. The Samagi Janabalawegaya and several others challenged the law on its constitutionality. The government earlier moved to bring in several amendments to the bill.
