A Fundamental Rights petition filed by a protester seeking an order directing the authorities not to remove the structures set up on behalf of the protestors at GotaGoGama was today dismissed by Supreme Court.

The petitioner Nuzly Hameem, a protester who took part in the protests at Galle Face Green since its inception, filed this petition naming the Inspector General of Police, Army Commander, Secretary to the President and Attorney General as respondents.

The petitioner sought an order directing the authorities to refrain from interfering with any peaceful protest carried out by citizens at the Galle Face Green, GotaGoGama and its vicinity.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, L.T.B. Dehideniya and H.M.A.D. Nawaz, after perusing the application refused to grant leave to proceed with the matter and dismissed it accordingly.

Counsel Pulasthi Hewamanna appeared for the petitioner. State Counsel Shaminda Wickrema appeared for the Attorney General.
