The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today ordered the release of former Chief Justice and former Attorney General Mohan Peiris, Supreme Court Judge A.H.M.D. Nawaz and former Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy M.M.C Ferdinando from a corruption case against them.
The Bribery Commission had informed the Magistrate that it has decided to withdraw the case filed against three accused in the Chief Magistrate’s Court.
When the case came up before Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala, the Bribery Commission submitted to the court that it would not proceed with the case filed against these three suspects owing to technical issues.
On January 18, 2018, the Bribery Commission filed a corruption case in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court against former Chief Justice and former Attorney General Mohan Peiris, Supreme Court Judge A.H.M.D. Nawaz and former Secretary to the Ministry M.M.C. Ferdinando.
The Bribery Commission filed this case against the suspects over an allegation that they conferred on a wrongful or unlawful benefit, and favour or advantage on the perpetrators accused of misappropriating funds belonging to Lanka Electricity Company (Private) Limited (LECO).
