Three suspects arrested for allegedly assaulting Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon were ordered to be remanded till May 19 by Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage gave a one-week ultimatum to the Kollupitiya Police to have an identification parade in respect of the suspects.

Police sought a further date for the identification parade citing the inability of producing main witnesses including Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon before the Court owing to their health condition. Meanwhile, President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne appearing for the suspects alleged that police are deliberately attempting to delay the identification parade for the purpose of keeping the suspects in remand custody.
