The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today ordered to temporarily suspend the travel ban imposed against former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga until the next court hearing.

Udayanga Weeratung, through his lawyer, made an application to temporarily suspend the travel ban. The Court had been informed that Udayanga Weeratung was instrumental in bringing Russian tourists to Sri Lanka.

The court had imposed a travel ban against Udayanga Weeratung over the alleged MiG aircraft deal. The value of the alleged deal was estimated at US$14 million. This is in connection with the financial fraud that is alleged to have taken place in procuring seven MiG-27 ground attack aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).

A further magisterial inquiry is fixed for November 22.
