Opposition members stormed towards the Speaker’s chair as the Speaker announced that the Secretary-General of Parliament has already informed Election Commission that Ramanayake’s seat has been rendered vacant in terms of the provisions of the constitution.
Opposition Leader Sajit Premadasa said what the Speaker did was wrong and that he should have informed the House before communicating with the Election Commission. While maintaining stoic silence to the queries directed at him the Speaker subsequently stated that his decision stands
