The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court observed today that the verdict of the inquest into the death of businessman Dinesh Schaffter would be delivered once it received the analytical report of the five-member expert medical panel.
The Court was informed that the report of the five-member expert medical panel that was appointed to perform a fresh postmortem inquiry into Shafter’s death is still not ready.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya stated that the five-member expert panel has sought further time for another round of discussion to come to a conclusion regarding the post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the Court issued an order directing the CID to take the necessary steps to obtain the Government Analyst’s reports on the productions referred to the Government Analyst by the court regarding the investigations.
The magisterial inquiry was postponed to August 22.
The Court has already sent nearly 50 blood samples to the Government Analyst for DNA reports related to Dinesh Shafter’s death.
The body of Dinesh Shafter was exhumed by the five-member expert medical board conducting forensic investigations to decide whether Dinesh Shafter’s death was a suicide or a murder.
