Welikada Prison Inmate Tests Positive for COVID-19

An inmate of the Welikada prison has tested positive for COVID-19, a press release from the Government Information Department states quoting Dr. Anil Jasinghe.
The inmate had been transferred to the prison on June 27th, from the Kandakudu Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts. He had been brought to Welikada to attend Court.
The release adds that inmates and officials at the Prison are being tested for the virus. According to reports more than 170 persons have been identified as having come into contact with the patient.
Meanwhile, the Prison’s Department has stated that visitors will not be allowed at the Welikada Prison, until further notice.
In the past several weeks, those found to be COVID-19 positive were those returning from abroad and some Navy personnel .
