The Minister of Judicial Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform has reportedly said that a sum of 8,90,000 US dollars has been received by the Treasury as an interim payment for the damage caused to the coastal belt by the Express Pearl ship.

In addition to this, Sri Lanka will receive another sum exceeding ten million rupees as compensation for the damages caused by the X-press pearl vessel.

It has been reported that this interim payment has been made to cover the costs incurred by the Maritime Environment Protection Authority for the cleaning up of the Sri Lankan coastline pollution caused by the fire on the Express Pearl ship.

The minister also mentioned that the payment was made by the insurance company of the Express Pearl ship.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Department says that compensation has also been requested for the damages caused to the fishermen. and that the relevant insurance company is considering a substantial payment as compensation for the damages caused to the livelihood of the fishermen.
