Yuan Wang 5, the controversial Chinese research and survey vessel, arrived at the Hambantota Port this morning after the Sri Lanka authorities gave the green light to the ship to dock at the Port for replenishments.

The ship initially scheduled to arrive on August 11 was delayed by a few days after the Foreign Ministry requested the ship to differ its arrival until the conclusion of further consultations.

The proposed arrival of the ship led to a near diplomatic standoff between Sri Lanka and India. Nevertheless, India softened its stand later, stating that Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation and it could decide whether to allow the ship or not.

Delayed due to diplomatic Manouvereing, the ship arrived this morning.

However, India said they are well equipped to handle any situation that may cause due to the arrival of the Yaan Wang 5 ta the Hambantota Port.
