Aegis Lexicon 2026 highlights growing cyber threats to national defence

The annual Aegis Lexicon 2026 Defence Cyber Exposition, organised by the Defence Cyber Command (DCC) of the Ministry of Defence, was held at the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday (19), focusing on emerging cyber threats and their implications for national security.
Deputy Minister of Defence, retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, attended the event as Chief Guest, while Defence Secretary, retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, was also present.
Addressing the gathering, Jayasekara stressed the growing importance of cyber security amid an evolving national and global security landscape.
He said Aegis Lexicon had developed into the flagship cyber security initiative of the Defence Cyber Command, providing a platform to strengthen cyber security awareness, technical capabilities and resilience while promoting greater cooperation among defence stakeholders.
Director of the Defence Cyber Command Brigadier Dhammika Vidanalage delivered the introductory remarks.
Held under the theme “Shaping the Future Battlespace Towards the Singularity,” this year’s exposition examined emerging technologies, developments and contemporary challenges in cyber security, with particular emphasis on their potential impact on national defence.
The programme featured expert presentations and panel discussions covering key areas of cyber security, emerging technological trends and national security.
The Aegis Lexicon series is intended to promote knowledge sharing and professional dialogue while enhancing awareness of evolving cyber threats and strengthening cyber preparedness and resilience within the defence sector.
The Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, senior Ministry of Defence officials, senior officers of the Tri-Services and other stakeholders attended the exposition.
