Colombo land values rise 5.9%

Land values in the Colombo District rose at a moderate pace during the first half of 2026, with the overall Land Valuation Indicator (LVI) increasing 5.9% year-on-year, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The increase was recorded compared with the corresponding period of 2025, with all three sub-indicators of the LVI registering growth.
Residential land values recorded the strongest increase, rising 6.7%, while commercial land values grew 5.7% and industrial land values increased 5.2%.
The Central Bank said the overall LVI and all three sub-indicators also increased during the first half of 2026 compared with the second half of 2025.
Residential and industrial land values recorded higher growth than in the second half of 2025, indicating stronger momentum in these segments during the first six months of the year.
The latest data point to continued expansion in Colombo’s property market, although the Central Bank characterised the pace of growth as moderate.
The LVI is compiled by the Central Bank to monitor movements in land prices across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors in the Colombo District.
