The Attorney General assured the Supreme Court not to arrest Parliamentarian HarinFernando until the 1st of September this year, concerning the Easter Sunday attacks.

The assurance came from the Attorney General when the FR petition filed by the Parliamentarian came up before a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Priyantha Jayawardena, Justice KumuduniWickremasinghe and Justice Mahinda Samayawardena.

Harin Fernando filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order preventing the police from arresting and detaining him concerning the Easter Sunday attack.

Fernando stated that the authorities questioned him on a comment he made at a press conference on April 21, 2019.

He said the motive behind the statement he made was to alert the public to the fact that though the authorities appeared to be unaware of the attack, his father, who was of advanced age and seriously ill and hospitalized in the ICU, had information of the attack.
