AG says PC elections are not possible under the old system

The Attorney General has informed the Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to revise Election laws that the Provincial council Elections cannot be a reality under the old act. He has pointed ot the necessity of introducing a new act for the purpose Leader of the House and Chairman of the Select committee Dinesh Gunawardene has said. The only impediment is the present legal impasse he has pointed out. Though we need to hold the elections expeditiously, the whole system has run into a legal sang. Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardene has conveyed the Attorney General's opinion to the other members of the Select Committee at a meeting held on Friday.
