Air China, the flag carrier of the People’s Republic of China, resumed flights between the newly constructed Tianfu International Airport, Chengdu, and Bandaranaike International Airport three times a week.

The first flight arrived at the BIA this morning with 142 passengers and nine crew members on board. The Chinese envoy in Colombo, Qi Zhen Hong, and Air China Asia-Pacific regional manager, Xue Jun, were at the airport to receive the flight. The operation of Air China to Sri Lanka was temporarily suspended following the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo said that Air China carried 115 million domestic and international passengers via a giant fleet of 893 aircraft in 2019.
