An island wide curfew will be imposed on Sunday, May 17th, the Presidential Secretariat announced on Thursday, May 14th.

There will be no change in Colombo and Gampaha which is currently under an indefinite curfew.  However, the system that was introduced on May 11, where residents of these two areas are permitted to travel for work and get about their daily needs will remain the same.

In all districts where the curfew is in force only from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. will be in effect until Saturday May 16th.  The same practice will be in force from Monday the 18th until Saturday, May 23rd, the release further said.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 infected patients, according to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, now stands at 925.  It is reported that more than 500 of the patients are from amongst Armed Forces personnel and their associates, with the Navy making up the most.
