The Health Ministry is unable to give an exact date as to when Sri Lanka will receive Astra Zeneca vaccines to be used as the second jab for those who received the first dose.

The Health Ministry now says that the vaccines will take another two weeks to arrive in Sri Lanka. The position taken by the authorities is contrary to the earlier assertion that vaccines will be available from tomorrow.

Health Promotion Bureau Director RanjithBatuwanthudawa has reportedly said that there is no fixed date for the Astra Zeneca to arrive at this end.

Batuwanthudawa has, however, given some hope that the consignment of vaccines would arrive soon.

Meanwhile, Health Ministry sources said the interval between the first dose and the second could be even six months. The University of Oxford has confirmed that the extended gap would enhance the effectiveness of the vaccine.
