At least 22 injured as bus overturns in North Central Province

At least 22 people were hospitalised after a private bus veered off the road and overturned into a canal in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province on Thursday, police said.
The accident occurred at around 4.45 a.m. while the bus was travelling to Colombo.
Police said the injured passengers were admitted to hospitals in the area for treatment.
The crash occurred at a location described by police as accident-prone. Investigations are under way to determine the cause.
Road accidents remain a major concern in Sri Lanka. Police statistics show that the country recorded 2,562 fatal road accidents in 2025.
