The CID, which is conducting investigations into the attack on Galle Face protesters on May 9, has sought the Attorney General’s advice regarding future legal action against the suspects.
In this case, parliamentarians Sanath Nishantha, Johnston Fernando, and Milan Jayathilake, and the leader of the Nawa Sinhale National Organisation, Dan Priyasad, and several others were named as suspects.
When the case pertaining to the matter came up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, the CID informed the Court that they had concluded preliminary investigations into the incident, and the abstracts of the investigation had been forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice. The CID further said they were yet to receive the Attorney General’s advice. Accordingly, the magistrate issued a notification directing the Attorney General to expedite an investigation into the incident.
Further magisterial inquiries are fixed for January 17 next year.
