The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has launched Financial Literacy Month 2026, beginning with a two-day exhibition in Colombo and followed by a series of regional programmes aimed at improving financial knowledge and inclusion across the country.

The initiative began on Thursday (08) with “FinLit Expo – Colombo” at the Centre for Banking Studies in Rajagiriya. The event, which continues on Friday, allows the public to engage with financial institutions, learn more about financial services and money management, and obtain information on protecting themselves from financial fraud and scams.

The programme forms part of Sri Lanka’s Financial Literacy Roadmap, which is being implemented under the National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

Following the Colombo event, six regional FinLit Expos will be held around the country, alongside other awareness programmes carried out with partner institutions. These activities are intended to take financial education directly to local communities and encourage people to apply financial knowledge in their everyday lives.

The Central Bank also plans a wider public awareness campaign through television, radio, newspapers and social media.

The programme will include digital financial literacy and activities promoting QR-based and other online payment methods, reflecting the growing use of digital financial services.

The Central Bank said the initiative is intended to strengthen financial inclusion and support more informed participation in the financial system.
