Chandrika’s plea for Ranjan reaches the President

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, in a letter, addressed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has requested a presidential pardon for former MP Ranjan Ramanayake. Ramanayake is her late husband VijayaKumaratunga’s nephew.
On January 11, the Supreme Court convicted Ranjan Ramanayake for the offence of contempt of court and sentenced him to a term of four years rigorous imprisonment.
Former President Kumaratunga identifies Ranjan Ramanayake as a veteran artist, social worker and politician who honestly dedicated to the people's wellbeing after spending his wealth.
Kumaratunga urges the President to grant a presidential pardon on Ramanayake since his government has already pardoned seven individuals who were convicted for serious crimes.
She urges the President to be good enough to pardon Ranjan, who has been imprisoned for nearly eight months.
