CID seeks Interpol Blue Notice for Basil Rajapaksa

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested Interpol to issue a ‘Blue Notice’ concerning former Minister Basil Rajapaksa in connection with three ongoing investigations, police said.
The investigations include allegations of money laundering and the alleged misuse of funds belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
One of the investigations concerns the alleged purchase of a property at Browns Hill, Matara, using laundered funds.
Another relates to the alleged misuse of Rs. 7.8 million belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to distribute 12,000 T-shirts during the Uva Provincial Council election campaign.
A Blue Notice is an international police alert issued through Interpol to obtain additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in connection with a criminal investigation.
