A tense situation erupted at the annual feast of a kovil in Nainativu Island, Jaffna, on Saturday when three cobras entered the kovil, scaring the devotees. The custodians and kurukkal of the Kovil had chanted slokas to chase them out, but without success. Later, the snakes slithered out of the kovil premises without the notice of the Kurukkal. Although the priests of the temple expressed different opinions about the presence of snakes in the temple, the devotees participated in the feast with caution.
