Colombo High Court permitted Former Megapolis and Western Province Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka to travel abroad after releasing his passport temporarily.

Earlier, the High Court directed authorities to impound his passport in connection with the case involving an accident in Rajagiriya.

Filing a motion before Colombo High Judge Damith Thotawatta, defence counsel for Champika Ranawaka, informed the high court judge that his client is expecting to go abroad in February next year. Defence Counsel sought the court’s permission to release his client’s passport to obtain a visa.

Accordingly, the Colombo High Court ordered the temporary release of Ranawaka’s passport.

The Attorney General filed 16 charges against MP Patali Champika, his driver Thusith Dilum Kumara and former officer In Charge (OIC) of the Welikada Police Station, Sudath Asmadala of fabricating false reports in connection with the motor accident that took place in 2016 at Rajagiriya.
