The Constitutional Council is scheduled to meet tomorrow, April 23 says a press release from the Parliamentary Media Division.

Counterpoint understands that the meeting has been called to discuss the performance of the Independent Commissions.

In recent months, the Police Services Commission in particular, has come under criticism by various groups that allege the Commission’s conduct does not display the true spirit of independence expected of it. Tomorrow’s meeting is scheduled to take place at the Speaker’s Residence,  under the  patronage of former Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya.

Prime Mininster Mahainda Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and other ex-officio members of the Council are due to attend the meeting.
