Curfew extended to Veyangoda

A curfew was put in place in Veyangoda with immediate effect, police media said.
The news comes after a curfew was imposed in Divulapitiya and Minuwangoda area earlier today after a Covid-19 patient was found in the area. The teen daughter of the patient was also tested positive for the virus today.
It will be in place till further notice, Department of Government Information stated in a press release.
CounterPoint learns that the patient was an employee at a private garment factory in Minuwangoda.
Several are in quarantine and police are tracing other contact persons, police media said.
The Ministry of Education announced that all schools will be closed. All tuition classes in Colombo and Gampaha was also cancelled.
Permission for visitors to Mahara and Negombo Prisons was also suspended.
Currently there are nearly 130 Covid-19 patients in the country, and the total infected thus far is about 3,400. Thirteen died of the virus since the outbreak.
