Sri Lanka Customs has intensified their checks on the passengers using the arrival and departure lounges allocated for VIPs at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
This is a sequel to the detection of gold biscuits and smartphones brought to the country by a ruling party parliamentarian representing the Puttalam district, Ali Sabry Rahim. Mr Rahim had used the VIP lounge for his travel overseas.
Rahim was subsequently released by customs after paying a fine, and he had left Sri Lanka for a Middle Eastern country on a Fly Dubai flight last night.
