Dehiwala grenade attack carried out for Rs. 20,000

Two men arrested over the grenade attack in Dehiwala that killed two children allegedly carried out the attack for just Rs. 20,000 and a quantity of crystal methamphetamine, police investigations have revealed.
The suspects, identified as Madushka Renuka alias “Madhu” and another man known as “Bodhiwatte Hiru”, were arrested by the Western Province South Crime Division.
Investigators believe the attack was commissioned by an individual identified as Avishka as retaliation in an ongoing dispute between rival criminal groups.
Police said the suspects were directed to a house believed to be linked to the rival group. However, the grenade allegedly struck an adjoining property after hitting a boundary wall.
Two children in that house were killed, while their father was seriously injured.
Police said Madhu had been previously arrested over criminal activity and was heavily addicted to crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice”.
The suspects are being questioned further about those who ordered the attack and other individuals linked to the criminal network.
