Dengue cases surpass 95,000

A total of 95,035 dengue cases have been reported across the country so far this year, with 72 deaths attributed to the disease, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said.
According to the NDCU, 9,699 cases were reported during August alone.
The Western Province has recorded the highest number of cases at 50,287, followed by the Southern Province with 13,843, the Central Province with 8,647 and Sabaragamuwa with 7,808.
At district level, Gampaha has reported the highest number of cases at 20,248, followed by Colombo with 18,842, Kandy with 6,931, Matara with 6,125 and Kalutara with 6,122.
The NDCU said 76 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the country had been identified as high-risk areas for dengue.
