Due to the shortage of trained doctors, child patients are sent to LRH from Karapitiya for emergency tests.

Children who need certain tests performed at the blood transfusion and paediatric heart catheterization units of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital are now referred to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for the tests due to the shortage of specialists.

One of the two specialist doctors who worked at the Karapitiya Paediatric Cardiac Catheterization Unit is abroad, and the other doctor is undergoing training. The Ministry said trained doctors are currently carrying out the treatment in the unit, and in case of emergency, the children are referred from Karapitiya to the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital in Colombo.
