Five committees appointed to secure the main claim.
The government has appointed 05 separate committees to explore ways and means to secure the principal claim of the ravaged ship off the Colombo Habour from the shipping company in Singapore.
The government has already made an interim claim of US Dollars 40 million that includes the cost incurred to douse the fire.
Additionally, Sri Lanka will be obtaining expertise from international organizations, and 03 experts from the United Nations are likely to arrive in the country shortly to advise local authorities.
Acting on the advice of the Attorney General, Sri Lankan authorities will reach an agreement with the operators of the X-Press Pearl concerning the removal of hazardous material from the wreck and towing the vessel into international waters.
At the same time, the Attorney General is looking into the Criminal & Civil aspects of the matter. One sub-committee is assigned with the task of evaluating and finalizing the international offers to clean up the wreck salvage the damaged parts from the bottom of the Ocean.
