Former Speaker WJ M Lokubandara passed away this evening while being treated at the IDH hospital after he was infected with Covid19.
Mr Lokubandara was 81.
Initially he was treated at a private hospital and thereafter admitted to the IDH.
Mr Lokubandara had an illustrious political career after he was elected as an MP representing Bandarawela from the UNP under leadership of President J R Jayewardene.
As a minister of the UNP government he had held many important portfolios including that of Education ,Media and Cultural Affairs
