Govt. to provide up to 1 mln rupees for sanitation facilities for people with disabilities

The government will provide up to 1 million Sri Lankan rupees per beneficiary under a new pilot project to improve sanitation facilities for people with disabilities, Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Susil Ranasinghe, said on Monday.
Ranasinghe said the pilot project would begin next week and initially cover the Western Province.
The government plans to expand the program nationwide from next year, he said.
The initiative is aimed at improving access to suitable sanitation facilities for people with special needs and supporting households that require modifications or new facilities to meet accessibility needs.
Improving the quality of life of people with disabilities has been a policy priority of the National People's Power (NPP) government.
