Jubilant crowds hail the stay-order given by the Supreme Court on Monday, against the President’s decision to dissolve Parliament.

For the second day, Parliamentary proceedings were disrupted by Members of Parliament. On Wednesday, they protested the vote of no confidence being moved against Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was appointed Prime Minister by President Sirisena. The President believed a majority of Parliamentarians were with him when he sacked Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister. Sirisena and Rajapaksa jointly attended a rally of their supporters to explain their actions, but failed to prevent an interim order being given by the Supreme Court.
