Residents in Madagonna and Godella areas are up in arms after a flight from Singapore, awaiting clearance from the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake to land, suddenly lifted off, creating a sonic boom and leaving a trail of destruction in the area.

The heavy boom generated by the sudden aircraft lift destroyed not only their houses but also a vast stretch of coconut land.

This incident occurred on July 5 around 5.35 p.m.

Kanishka, who is a 36-year-old married man and a farmer by profession, said that he has suffered the biggest damage from this incident.

“We found that this flight had come from Singapore with 292 passengers on board “, he said.

The residents whose houses and property were damaged had made complaints to the Katana police regarding the incident.

An extent of the area near the Kadawala temple has been damaged following this incident”, the resident said.
