Former Petroleum Industries Deputy Minister and former Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board (DLB), Sarana Gunawardena, was today ordered to be released on bail by the Colombo High Court.
This is for alleged misuse of a state vehicle valued at over Rs. 13.6 million while he was serving as the Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board during the previous regime.
The Bribery Commission had filed a corruption case against Sarana Gunawardena for allegedly committing this offense between 2006.08.01 and 2007.07.31.
High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja ordered to release the former Deputy Minister on two sureties of Rs. 50,000 with a cash bail of Rs. 50,000. This case was fixed for trial on May 4.
