Colombo’s Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith today called upon Catholics and others to hoist black flags on the 21st of August.

The Catholic Church said this should be done as a mark of protest against the governments, failure to mete out justice to the Easter Sunday victims and its inherent dereliction to bring the real culprits to book.

The Archbishop also called upon the people to display black flags on vehicles and close shops. His Eminence also rejected a reply sent by the Director-General Legal Affairs of the Presidential Secretariat HarigupthaRohanadheera as irrelevant.

The Director-General sent a response to the Archbishop to many queries he raised regarding the Eater Sunday attack.

He said there “The letter had failed to come up with answers to the questions we had raised,” he said. “We are of the view apolitical deal has been hatched to protect politicians mentioned by the Presidential Commission as being responsible.
