Minister Jeevan Thondaman said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to grant Rs 3000 million for the development of health and education in the plantation sector.
Addressing the media on his return to the country from India, Minister Thomdaman stated that discussions between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi focused on the implementation of the 13th Amendment, MoUs on energy and economic development, and the development of the Indian-Origin Tamil Community in Sri Lanka.
Thondaman was a part of the delegation to India headed by President Wickremesinghe.
“I also highlighted that providing infrastructure facilities alone will not empower the upcountry, but providing quality education will provide sustainable transformation”, he said.
