The Court of Appeal today put off till April 5 the decision in respect of an Interim relief prayed by Gampaha District Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, claiming his rights to function as a Parliamentarian.

This order was to be delivered today (31), but Court of Appeal (President) Justice Arjuna Obeysekera announced that the order will be delivered on 5th April at 9:30am since the order is still under preparation.

On January 11, the Supreme Court convicted Ranjan Ramanayake for the offence of contempt of court and sentenced him to a term of four years of rigorous imprisonment.

Filing this petition though through his lawyers, Ramanayake is seeking an order restraining Secretary General of Parliament from taking any steps to inform the Election Commission that he has vacated his seat as a Member of Parliament.
