Justice Ministry to gazette Bill extending judges' retirement age

The Ministry of Justice is to gazette the Bill seeking to increase the retirement age of judges after the Attorney General approved the draft legislation.
The Attorney General's Department said its legal observations on the proposed Bill had been forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, paving the way for the legislation to be finalised and published in the Government Gazette.
The proposal, which seeks to extend the retirement age of judges by two years, recently received Cabinet approval after being presented by the Ministry of Justice.
The Government has said the measure is intended to help expedite the hearing and disposal of pending court cases, noting that more than 1.1 million cases are currently awaiting adjudication in courts across the country.
