Lawyers permitted to cross provincial borders

Pursuant to a request made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), Police have permitted the Attorneys-at-Law to crossprovincial borders upon the production of their respective BASL Membership Identity Card.
BASL Secretary Rajeev Amarasuriya said they had made representations to the relevant authorities including IGP C.D. Wickramaratneand Head of Legal of the Sri Lanka Police DIG Ajith Rohana requesting that Attorneys-at-Law travelling between provincial borders for urgent Court work be permitted to travel.
The BASL Secretary further said all services pertaining to the Administration of Justice have also been identified as being essential services during the imposition of the present restrictions.
However, BASL requests its members to make use of this privilege only for essential or urgent court work and members are advised to be in court attire when crossing borders.
