The Bar Association branch of Mount Lavinia has unanimously passed a resolution to refrain from court work except for urgent matters from the 19th of August to the 27th of August 2021.

Accordingly, the Bar Association of Mount Lavinia has urged the judges of Magistrate’s Courts, District Courts and Civil Appellate High Courts in Mount Lavinia to postpone all trials and calling dates during this period by way of notices.

The Mount Lavinia Bar Association further requests to keep the lawyers’ room and cafeteria closed until further notice.

The BASL branch states the decision is a sequel to the prevailing situation concerning the significant increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases and the number of deaths and to ensure the safety, of its members, staff members, litigants and witnesses.

In a letter to the judges of Magistrate’s Courts, District Courts and Civil Appellate High Courts in Mount Lavinia, the President of Mount Lavinia Bar Association Attorney-at-law Jagath Halpandeniya has requested to implement a proper mechanism adhering to health guidelines to ensure the safety of all stakeholders when the court work resumes.
