Mullaitivu Magistrate Court issued an order yesterday temporarily suspending the excavation of the mass grave found in Kokkuthuduwai Mulaitivu.
This order has been issued until a suitable environment is created to commence excavations in compliance with international standards and regulations.
Several factions had alleged that excavations at the mass grave in Kokkuthuduwai, Mullaitivu, were not being carried out in compliance with international standards and regulations. A protest had been organised in the vicinity of the mass grave recently, requesting that excavations at that level be conducted.
However, during three days of excavations done at this grave, 16 human bone fragments suspected to be members of the LTTE and some LTTE uniforms, weapons, bombs, and other military equipment were found. These items are currently stored at the Mullaitivu courts.
