Namal Rajapaksa remanded until 23 September over Airbus probe

Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday ordered MP Namal Rajapaksa to be remanded until 23 September in connection with an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of about US$2 million linked to the purchase of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
The court also said it would deliver its order on Rajapaksa’s bail application on the same day.
Rajapaksa, who is already in remand custody, was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court for proceedings in the case.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amaraseena issued the order after considering submissions made by Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, appearing for the Criminal Investigation Department, and President’s Counsel Anil Silva and other lawyers representing Rajapaksa.
