A Nigerian national was sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court for possessing cocaine

A Nigerian was today sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court after being found guilty of possessing and trafficking 249 grammes of cocaine. The Nigerian had been arrested along with 249 grammes of cocaine by the Police Narcotics Bureau at a car park in the Rajagiriya area in 2016. High Court Judge Namal Balalle observed that the prosecution has proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The Attorney General had filed indictments comprising two charges against the accused under the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Act.
