Nine arrested in Jaffna with Rs. 900,000 and sharp weapons

Police in Jaffna arrested nine people on Sunday after allegedly finding Rs. 900,000 in cash and several sharp weapons in their possession.

Police stopped and searched a car near Jaffna town and recovered the cash and weapons from the vehicle.

Further questioning led officers to arrest two more suspects who were travelling suspiciously through Jaffna town on two motorcycles.

Police suspect the weapons may have been intended for use in a criminal offence and that the Rs. 900,000 could have been payment connected to such an act.

The nine suspects have been taken into police custody for questioning and are expected to be produced before court.
