Morgantown, WV - 16 December 2020: Small bottle of coronavirus vaccine with syringe with background of the Chinese company Sinopharm logo

The members of the NMRA said no sufficient literature on the vaccine by the manufacture was the reason not to approve the vaccine for use among the general public.

The first victim was well-known specialist Dr Palitha Abeykoon and the latest being Dr Lakkumar Fernanado reputed paediatrician appointed by the College of Pediatricians.

The expert committee believed that if the vaccine proves to have adverse effects they would be responsible and pointed out instances where it had happened and regulators charged for criminal negligence.

A total of 600,000 China’s Sinopharm vaccine was received by Sri Lanka last week and the President participated in the ceremony to handover the vaccine at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Opposition JVP’s Dr Nalinda Jayatissa addressing a press briefing warned that the government should not play with the lives of the people.
