Palitha Bandara wins Sri Lanka’s first medal at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Sri Lankan para-athlete Palitha Bandara won the country’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday (30), claiming silver in the men’s discus throw F42-44/F61-64 event.
Bandara produced a personal-best throw of 46.84 metres to finish second in the final.
Wales’ Aled Davies won the gold medal, while Akeem Stewart of Trinidad and Tobago secured bronze.
The result marked Bandara’s second consecutive Commonwealth Games silver medal after he finished runner-up at Birmingham 2022.
Sri Lanka will seek further medals when Rumesh Tharanga and Sumedha Ranasinghe compete in the men’s javelin throw.
