Pandu Karanda tree to be uprooted from where it was cut and buried, under judicial supervision

The Gampaha Additional Magistrate today ordered the Gampaha District Forest Officer to excavate the Pandu Karanda (Crudia Zeylanica) tree, which is included in the Red Data Book due to its threat of extinction.
The Additional Magistrate ordered that excavation of the tree be carried out before the Gampaha Acting Magistrate.
This tree was found cut and buried in the Daraluwa area, where the construction work for the first phase of the Central Motorway is being carried out.
The registrar of the court was also ordered to inform the Bemmulla police to maintain the police security deployed in the area where the tree was cut and buried until the excavation is completed.
